Your Ford Bronco™ Sport is now equipped with Ghost Gear. It sounds like something that makes your Ford Bronco ™ Sport ready to handle reconnaissance missions for the US Army. Even though it’s not, the materials used are just as impressive. So, what is “Ghost Gear,” and why does it matter? Let’s find out.

What is Ghost Gear?

Up to 13 million metric tons of plastic find their way into the ocean each year, according to a global nongovernmental organization, Pew Charitable Trusts. Most of the plastic comes from the fishing industry. Lightweight, durable, and buoyant material used to make ghost nets for catching and trapping fish. These nets are often discarded and left to entangle fish, sharks, dolphins, seals, sea turtles, and birds.

How Ford Uses Ghost Gear

So, Ford decided to use recycled material to create wiring harness clips in Ford Bronco™ Sport models. The clips weigh about five grams and fasten to the sides of the Bronco Sport second-row seats and guide wires that power side-curtain airbags. The supplier for these harness clips is Hellermann Tyton.

”As a global leader in cable management innovation, Hellermann Tyton strives for eco-friendly ways to pave the path to a more sustainable future,” said Anisia Peterman, Hellermann Tyton’s automotive product manager. “Developments like this do not come easy, so we are proud to collaborate with Ford in support of a unique product solution that contributes to healthier oceans.”
